We are excited to share updates from the Keansburg Bayside Neighborhood Planning Initiative. A huge thank you to Deacon Rose of Saint Marks Church for hosting the location, the Affordable Housing Alliance (AHA) for initiating the event, and Jason Rowe, our dedicated Community Planner, for presenting and hosting the meeting.
Community Discussion Recap
Our community had a vibrant discussion centered around our collective dreams and improvements for Keansburg. While this was our second meeting, you can find the presentation from the first meeting, which explains the initiative and how it works, here. For all information on past and future events, visit Keansburg NRTC. Here are some of the creative suggestions that were floated:
Fencing Around Parks: To ensure safety and provide a defined space for recreational activities.
Dog Park: A dedicated area for our four-legged friends to play and socialize.
New Park Equipment: Upgrading and modernizing play equipment to ensure safety and fun for children.
Spray Park: An interactive water feature for children to enjoy during the warmer months.
Better Turf on Playgrounds: Improving the ground surfaces to enhance safety and comfort.
Park Bathrooms: Ensuring access to clean and functional restroom facilities.
Picnic Tables, Shade Structures and BBQs: Encouraging family gatherings and community picnics.
Running or Walking Tracks and Volleyball Nets: Promoting fitness and recreational activities for all ages.
Community Programs and Educational Events: Organizing events like beach seining to educate residents about local ecosystems.
Encouraging Community Presence: Boosting parental and police presence at parks to create a safe, vibrant environment that discourages vandalism.
Winter Activities and Community Center: Exploring the possibility of covering a park to facilitate winter activities, serving as a community hub year-round.
These ideas represent the collective vision for creating a more engaging, safe, and inclusive environment in Keansburg that were shared at our meeting. We are excited to continue these discussions and work towards implementing the changes our community desires. Find the meetings presentation here! Did we miss something? NRTC Program Explained
For those unfamiliar, the NRTC (Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit) program is a comprehensive set of strategies designed to improve our community through active resident participation and collaboration. It's different from the Borough Master Plan in several ways:
Not a Formal Borough Plan: The NRTC plan is developed through a community-driven process and is not part of the Borough's Master Planning process.
Implementation by Local Non-Profits: The NRTC plan requires a local non-profit organization to lead its implementation, as opposed to the Borough handling it directly.
Focus on Community Engagement: The NRTC program emphasizes public involvement through multiple community meetings and surveys to ensure it genuinely reflects resident concerns and aspirations.
Join Us for the Next Meeting
We encourage everyone to attend the next Keansburg Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit meeting on November 12th with the agenda of Jobs and Local Economy. Your participation is crucial in shaping the future of our community. While it's not required to RSVP, we strongly encourage you to do so on our website to receive reminders. We look forward to seeing you there and working together to make Keansburg a better place for all.
