Summary of the Borough Council Meeting - July 17th, 2024

The Borough Council meeting that took place on July 17th, 2024, at 7 PM, covered various topics. (Meeting Agenda)

Below is an easy-to-read summary of the key points discussed:

Introduction of New Ordinances

Two new ordinances were introduced during the meeting:

  • Ord. 1723 – Classified Positions (07.17.24)

  • Ord. 1724 - Unclassified Positions (07.17.24)

Public Concerns and Inquiries

During the open session, multiple citizens addressed the Council with their concerns:

Forest Avenue Stop Intersections:

  • Antonietta Carbone inquired about the status of the Forest Avenue Stop Intersections project as well as the Center Ave Traffic Study. This issue had previously been introduced on April 17th due to public concerns raised during the March 20th meeting.

  • The Council, Borough Manager, and Public Works had no updates to provide and appeared unprepared for the question.

  • The Borough Manager committed to reaching out to Antonietta with an update, which had not been provided at the time of writing.

Feral Cats:

  • A concerned citizen brought up issues related to feral cats and the people feeding them.

  • The Borough will investigate existing laws to possibly enforce an ordinance prohibiting the feeding of outside animals.

Parking Meter Signs:

  • Braden Salas brought attention to the unprofessional and ineffective paper signs currently being used for the new parking meters.

  • The Council stated they would contact the vendor to request metal signs. If the vendor cannot provide them, the Borough will consider getting the current paper signs professionally printed on metal signs due to concerns about scammers.

Other Agenda Items

  1. Review and approval of prior meeting minutes.

  2. Approval of routine business and administrative matters.

  3. Endorsement to NJ Cannabis Commission - NJ Leaf.

  4. No Updates from the Keansburg Police Department, Water Department, and Department of Public Works.
